Estádio Governador Plácido Castelo, widely known as Castelão or Gigante da Boa Vista, is one of the largest and most iconic football stadiums in Brazil. The venue officially opened on 11 November 1973 with a match between Ceará SC and Fortaleza EC, ending in a 0–0 draw.
Both clubs are historically significant: Ceará Sporting Club was founded in 1914, and Fortaleza Esporte Clube in 1918. Castelão regularly hosts top-flight Brazilian league matches and major football events.
The stadium’s record attendance was set on 27 August 1980, when the Brazil national team defeated Uruguay 1–0 in front of 118,000 spectators, demonstrating its historic capacity and significance in Brazilian football.
Castelão was a key venue for the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, hosting three matches:
