Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo, popularly known as Morumbi, is one of Brazil’s largest and most historic football stadiums. The venue officially opened with a match between São Paulo FC and Portuguese side Sporting Clube de Portugal. The stadium is named after Cícero Pompeu de Toledo, a former chairman of São Paulo FC who passed away before the venue’s inauguration.
Morumbi is a multi-purpose stadium, also used for athletics and concerts, and has undergone several renovations to modernize its infrastructure. Its record attendance was set in 1977, when 138,000 spectators watched SC Corinthians Paulista face Associação Atlética Ponte Preta. Corinthians later became one of the first sports clubs in the world to surpass 10 million followers on social media.
