The region next to the brightest region (30-60 m inward) is moderately bright, requiring about 50 lux. The later zone (60-96 m inward) may require 40 Lux, which is referred to as the transition zone. Strong light of about 30 lux is not needed in the middle of the tunnel.

In a tunnel of this size, the entire structure might require only 143 lights. 40 of the entrances and exits of the tunnel can be used, with the remaining 63 installed in the middle. They can be paired with smart lighting controls to adjust brightness through natural light.
