Demand of LED Golf Course and Driving Range Lights

Golf is an outdoor sport that makes full use of space. When considering the lighting of the golf course, not only the illuminance of the golfer’s walking and the ball falling on the lawn should be considered. The most important thing is to make the light of the upper space of the stadium as uniform as possible and not to dim the sphere. So a proper lighting plan is essential to maintaining adequate lighting and uniformity at the golf course and driving range.  Let’s discuss how to achieve the required brightness standard?

Lighting Standards FOR Golf course and Driving range

A: GOLF COURSE

A standard golf course consists of 18 holes, each with a defined number of poles called a par (par) with a par 72. There are tees, fairways, greens and obstacles such as long grass, sand pits and pools. That kind of golf course are all used poles with lights, and the height of lighting tower in the golf course is usually above 15m

B: GOLF DRIVING RANGE

Similar to the golf course lighting standard, the driving range lighting standard focuses on achieving adequate lighting for designated areas. Generally, the ground lux level for training and recreation is about 200 to 300 lux. There should be enough brightness to ensure that spectators and golfers have enough light to clearly see the trajectory of the golf ball.

Most of fields will install the lights on the roof of teeing ground and some of large area also will install the poles with lights beside the golf drive range area.

Teeing Ground

In the teeing ground, install the lighting on the left and right sides of the teeingground or in the rear, around 2m from the end point of the teeing ground.

When installing the lighting on the left and right sides, anticipate that the athletesmay be left or right-handed and be sure to install supplementary lighting in thesymmetrical direction to ensure that the players are not obstructed by shadows.

Aiming needs to be performed to track the balls sent aloft from the teeing ground.

Fairway

To find the location of the ball that has landed on the fairway, we need wideranging aiming over the entire fairway.

Be sure to provide luminance to shadowy areas created by various obstructionsor topographical conditions.

Aiming is necessary to track the flight trajectory of the balls headed toward the fairway.

Putting Green

When heading from the fairway to the green, the players should not see any direct glare from the light source.

Take care when selecting the ocation to prevent ground reflection glare from occuring when players are focused on the, putting play concentrate.

Arrange the lights toensure that shadows are eliminated as far as possible, reaardless of whether the plaver is left or richt-handed.

Set the uniformitv luminance at the hihest level.

LED Golf Course Lighting Questions & Answers

Q1. How to choose the color temperature of LED Golf Course and Driving Range Lights?

Professional courses prefer using 5000K on the field. Recreational courses may choose a warmer soothing light alternatively. So most of clients will choose 5000K for the professional courses, on the contrary, if you own a community golf club or recreational driving range, both warm and white lights are applicable. You are most likely going to use 2800k-5000K for the driving range and 5000K lights throughout the golf course. Depending on your requirements and choice of lights, we can provide 2700K-5000K for your choose.

Q2. How to choose the Beam angle of lights for Golf Course?

For the golf course, the lighting requirements of different areas are completely different.

For example, in the kick-off area, we need to see further away, so the lamps are required to have a narrow beam Angle. In the green area, we need to judge the terrain and distance, so we need some high illumination. At this time, we need the wide beam Angle of the lamp to improve the brightness of the whole area.

The Mecree golf course lighting has 15/20/30/60 beam angle, suitable for all areas of the layout

The beam angle of the golf course lighting is very simple. Wider angles are for short ranges and narrow bean angles are for long distance lighting. Most of clients will choose 10-30Deg for long-range lighting and 45-90Deg for short-range lighting.

MECREE AFL series can match different optics on one 600w or 1200w models to achieve different lighting requirements. 40*85Deg optics can be lighted for the area of short distance around the poles and 30Deg optics can be lighted for long distance to make full use of lighting distribution.

Q3. What height of the poles on the Golf Course install?

There will always be differences in the height of the light poles in the entire golf course. Long-distance lighting requires high poles, while short-distance poles require shorter poles. The average height of high light poles is usually 30 meters. The shorter pole is 15 meters high. According to the design and landscape layout of the golf course, the height of the light pole must be adjusted to prevent light pollution and light seepage.
