Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto, widely known as Mineirão, is one of Brazil’s largest and most iconic football stadiums. The venue officially opened on 5 September 1965 with a football match attended by 73,000 spectators. With a seating capacity of 61,000, Mineirão has been a central hub for football in Belo Horizonte, hosting domestic league matches, international competitions, and major sporting events.
Mineirão was one of the key venues for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, hosting several group stage and knockout matches, including:
First World Cup match at Mineirão: 14 June 2014, Colombia defeated Greece 3–0 in front of 57,000 spectators
Other participating national teams: Algeria, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, England, Germany, and Iran

Ronaldo, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, began his professional career with Cruzeiro. He transferred to PSV Eindhoven in 1994 and later played for FC Barcelona, Internazionale, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Corinthians. Ronaldo famously scored twice in the 2002 FIFA World Cup final, securing Brazil’s fifth world championship title. In 2021, Ronaldo acquired a controlling stake in his former club, Cruzeiro, reinforcing his legacy in Brazilian football.
