Venue Renovation History
Since its opening in 1980, Wonju Stadium has undergone multiple renovations and upgrades to meet the standards of modern sports events and improve the experience of athletes and spectators. The key renovation projects are as follows:
2005 Renovation: Focusing on optimizing the competition venue, the natural turf of the football field was replaced with a high-durability type suitable for frequent competitions. The original cinder track was upgraded to a professional plastic track that meets the standards of the International Association of Athletics Federations (World Athletics). In addition, electronic scoreboards and professional lighting systems were added, realizing the holding of night games and improving the visibility and professionalism of the venue.
2018 Facility Upgrade: Centering on the needs of public services and event operations, the renovation focused on the spectator area and supporting facilities. Barrier-free passages were added in the stands to ensure the travel convenience of disabled spectators; the spectator rest area and catering service points were expanded to enhance the on-site experience. At the same time, the athlete locker rooms, referee rooms, and medical rooms were fully renovated, equipped with advanced training and rehabilitation equipment to meet the professional needs of athletes.
2023 Intelligent Transformation: To adapt to the development trend of digital sports events, the venue has carried out intelligent upgrades. It has added professional live broadcast equipment interfaces and high-definition surveillance systems to ensure the smooth progress of event live broadcasts and safety management. The online ticket purchase and electronic ticket checking system was introduced, simplifying the ticket checking process and improving the efficiency of venue operation. In addition, the environmental monitoring system of the stadium was upgraded to realize real-time monitoring of turf and track conditions, which is convenient for daily maintenance.
