Ülker Stadyumu, officially known as the Fenerbahçe Şükrü Saracoğlu Spor Kompleksi, is one of the most iconic and atmospheric football stadiums in the world. Located in the vibrant, cosmopolitan district of Kadıköy on the Asian side of Istanbul, the ground has been the home of Fenerbahçe since its inception. Originally opened in 1908, the stadium has undergone numerous major renovations, most notably in 1982, 1999-2006, and 2013, transforming it from a basic field into a modern, UEFA Elite Category stadium. In 2015, naming rights were secured by Ülker, a major Turkish food and beverage manufacturer based in Istanbul.
The stadium’s prestige was globally recognized when it hosted a major European final. On May 20, 2009, it staged the last-ever final of the tournament named the UEFA Cup (rebranded the following season as the UEFA Europa League). In front of 37,000 spectators, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk defeated Germany’s Werder Bremen 2-1 to lift the trophy. This event cemented the stadium’s status as a world-class venue.
This stadium is the sacred home of Fenerbahçe Spor Kulübü, one of the “Big Three” and a pillar of Turkish sport.
Nickname: “Sarı Kanaryalar” (The Yellow Canaries), derived from the club’s iconic yellow and navy blue colors.
Historic Dominance: Fenerbahçe won its first Turkish league title in 1959. The club achieved a monumental milestone by becoming the first football team in Turkey to win 10 top-division championships, leading the historical title race ahead of rivals Beşiktaş and Galatasaray for decades.
