Stadion Maguwoharjo (also widely known as Stadion Sultan Agung) is a massive football stadium located in the Sleman Regency of the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. True to its description, since its major redevelopment and reopening in the mid-2000s (circa 2005), it has consistently ranked among the largest sports venues by capacity in Indonesia.
The stadium is situated in the Maguwoharjo area and is closely associated with the royal legacy of Yogyakarta, often carrying the name of Sultan Agung, the revered 17th-century ruler of the Mataram Sultanate.
The stadium’s design is defined by its immense scale and functional, modern aesthetics:
Football-Specific Bowl: It is a large, symmetrical bowl primarily designed for football, providing clear sightlines from all seats.
Expansive Capacity: With a capacity of approximately 50,000, it is the largest stadium in the Yogyakarta region and one of the biggest in Java outside of Jakarta.
Modern Infrastructure: Features two-tiered stands on the sides, a large single-tiered stand behind one goal, and basic cover from a cantilevered roof over the main stands. Its scale is its most defining architectural feature.
