Stade Omnisport Paul Biya is the largest sports venue in Cameroon, designed to meet international competition standards and support major football events across Africa. The stadium opened in 2021 with a high-profile international match between Cameroon and Malawi, where the home team secured a 2–0 victory—marking the start of the venue’s role as a new national sports landmark.
The stadium gained global attention during the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). On 9 January 2022, it hosted its first-ever AFCON match featuring Cameroon vs. Burkina Faso.
Cameroon (Les Lions Indomptables) won 2–1 in front of 42,000 spectators.
Vincent Aboubakar scored twice for Cameroon.
Gustavo Fabrice Sangaré scored for Burkina Faso.
Stade Omnisport Paul Biya also hosted the AFCON 2022 Final, a match that further solidified the stadium’s reputation as a world-class sports venue.
Senegal won the championship after a penalty shootout against Egypt.
Senegal advanced by defeating Burkina Faso in the semifinals.
Egypt reached the final after a dramatic victory against Cameroon.
With its modern design, 60,000-seat capacity, and international-standard facilities, Stade Omnisport Paul Biya stands as a symbol of Cameroon’s commitment to major sporting infrastructure and global football events.
