The Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde was developed as part of a national initiative to modernize the country’s sports infrastructure and provide a venue capable of hosting international football competitions. Construction began with the goal of creating a multi-functional sports complex that meets FIFA and CAF standards. The project was supported by government investment and formed a key component of Cabo Verde’s long-term sports development strategy.
The stadium officially opened on 23 August 2014, marking a major milestone for the small island nation. Prior to its construction, Cabo Verde lacked a modern national stadium suitable for high-level international matches. The new venue provided the national football team with a home ground that met global requirements.
