Stadium Overview

Rogers Centre is a landmark multi-purpose stadium located in downtown Toronto, Canada, adjacent to the CN Tower, once the tallest freestanding structure in the world. Construction of the stadium began in 1986, and it officially opened on 3 June 1989.

Originally known as SkyDome from 1989 to 2005, the venue was later renamed Rogers Centre. With a capacity of approximately 49,000 spectators, it is the largest stadium by capacity in Ontario and one of the most recognizable sports venues in Canada.

Multi-Purpose Design and Events

Rogers Centre is renowned for its versatility and retractable-roof design, allowing it to host a wide range of events throughout the year. Over the decades, the stadium has staged baseball, Canadian football, American football, basketball, association football, concerts, wrestling events, monster truck shows, and supercross competitions, making it one of North America’s most adaptable venues.

Toronto Argonaut Football Club

Between 1989 and 2015, Rogers Centre served as the home stadium of the Toronto Argonaut Football Club, commonly known as the Argos. The Argonauts compete in the Canadian Football League (CFL), the premier Canadian football competition.

Founded in 1873, the Argonauts are among the oldest professional sports teams in North America and have won the Grey Cup on numerous occasions. Their first-ever Grey Cup victory came in 1914, when they won the championship in Toronto in front of approximately 10,000 spectators.

Toronto Raptors

Rogers Centre also played an important role in Canadian basketball history. Between 1995 and 1999, the venue hosted numerous home games of the Toronto Raptors, following the club’s entry into the National Basketball Association (NBA).

The Raptors later achieved historic success by winning their first NBA championship in 2019, defeating the Golden State Warriors in the Finals. This victory made the Raptors the first NBA champions from Canada, after reaching the Finals by overcoming the Milwaukee Bucks.

Toronto Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays have been the permanent tenants of Rogers Centre since its opening in 1989. Founded in 1977, the Blue Jays are members of Major League Baseball (MLB) and are Canada’s only MLB franchise.

The club achieved major success in the early 1990s, winning the World Series in 1992 for the first time in its history and successfully defending the title in 1993. The Blue Jays also became the first Canadian baseball club to surpass one million followers on their main social media page, reflecting their nationwide popularity.

Football and International Matches

Rogers Centre has also hosted high-profile football matches. In 2012, the stadium staged a CONCACAF Champions League match between Toronto FC and LA Galaxy, drawing a crowd of approximately 47,000 spectators, which set a record attendance for a Toronto FC home match at the time.

In 2018, Toronto FC reached the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, becoming the second Canadian club to do so. The final was contested against Club Deportivo Guadalajara. Toronto FC lost the first leg in Mexico, won the second leg in Toronto, but ultimately lost the championship on penalties. CF Montréal had previously been the first Canadian club to reach the final of the competition.

Role in Canadian Sport

Today, Rogers Centre stands as one of the most important stadiums in Canadian sports history. Its long list of tenants, championship moments, and international events has cemented its reputation as a national sports and entertainment icon, playing a vital role in Toronto’s identity as a global sports city.

Preface

1. Optimal Experience

With the growing popularity of nighttime sports events, professional competitions demand higher lighting quality. The glare from traditional fixtures can no longer meet athletes’ expectations for sensory experience. Leveraging breakthroughs in MECREE’s sports lighting technology, our precise light control and anti-glare designs enable athletes to perform at their peak and enjoy an exceptional sports experience.

2.Impact of Light Pollution

Issues caused by unnecessary nighttime lighting, such as light pollution and light trespass, are increasingly concerning and have led to rising public complaints. Amid growing environmental awareness, lighting designers must prioritize controlling “Light Pollution” and “Light Trespass.” We are committed to addressing this challenge through innovative optical technologies.

What kind of light is used in stadiums?

Currently common traditional stadium lights model for some international stadiums as below:
MVF406/1800W, HNF003, MVF401, MVF403, MVF024, EF-2000, YOA56305, YOAX56400, 2kW: HQI-TS 2000WDS, 2kW: HQI-TS 1000WDS, MHN-SA 2KW 400V/956, MHN-SB/HO 2KW 400V/956, LPW2000M/D, LPW1000MB/L, LPP2000MHN-SA, LPP2000MHN-SB.
There is big problem that traditional lamps can not cannot meet the needs of 4K and 8K high-definition broadcast and huge energy consumption.
With the strengthening of environmental lighting awareness and the pursuit of high-quality lighting, there is a trend to replace traditional lamps by high quality of LED Stadium Lights.
MECREE has launched the following series of LED Sport Stadium Lighting:

  1. R580 series stadium lights are designed for 160 feet to 1000 feet of lighting distances and 4K, 8K HD broadcasting.
  2. AFL series stadium lights are designed for lighting distances from 50 feet to 330 feet and improve the brightness uniformity.
  3. P73-L and A65 series stadium lights are designed for the precise light control needs of the North American and European markets. The Upward Light Ratio of the P73P73–L/A65 series LED stadium lights is 0%.

MECREE’s specially engineered precision lighting control is designed to meet the needs of such users. The polarized light range of 65-73° is defined as the P73-L and A65 series products, which deliver an unparalleled visual experience while offering access to thousands of IES profiles.

New LED Sports Lighting Solution Provider

PRECISE CONTROL OF LIGHT 1

-OPTICS 10X BETTER

A65

Our precisely engineered optics of polarized light aim light directly onto the field of play, to shine uniformly and to minimize glare. Outdoor venues benefit from spill light control, no more skyglow and no more complaints from the neighbors.

COMPETITORS

1. Such light shield is useless, just misleading customers.
2. As tested it will cause 30% reduction of light output
3. While 70% still have high overflow
4. Unbearable strong glare
5. Waste energy,outdated reflective technology

PRECISE CONTROL OF LIGHT 1

-OPTICS 10X BETTER

REMOTE DRIVER

The power supply and lamp body can be mounted separately, reducing the withstand weight of the lamp pole and facilitating maintenance.

CONVENIENT INSTALLATION 3

-EASY CROSSARM REPLACEMENT

Customized crossarms are available to meet all your existing old poles without replacing the main rod, crossarms bolt directly to light pole, easy and accurate installation saves time, ensures performance, safety and reliability, also lower the budget.

How to accurately aim the lights in the stadium?

In current sports lighting projects, high-altitude light calibration is recognized as a major efficiency bottleneck. The process carries high safety risks, is prone to aiming deviations, and involves cumbersome installation and removal procedures, making it difficult to achieve the required uniformity.

MECREE’s innovative laser aiming mount was designed precisely to address these issues. It revolutionizes the workflow through three key advantages:

Easy Installation: With a simple design, it allows rapid mounting and dismounting, significantly lowering the operational threshold.

Precise Aiming: Ensures accurate laser alignment, fundamentally guaranteeing uniform illumination and compliance with lighting standards.

Efficient Operation: Reduces labor and time costs by up to 80%. Calibrating 200 fixtures at height previously took 20 days; now the same workload can be completed in just 4 days.

Choosing MECREE means choosing a safer, more precise, and highly efficient sports lighting solution.
