They won their fifth European championship title after defeating AC Milan from the Italian Republic in the 2005 UEFA Champions League final. 72,000 people showed up for the match, which took place in Istanbul. AC Milan reached the final after defeating PSV from Eindhoven and Liverpool FC reached the final after defeating Chelsea Football Club from London.

That year, the Mexican side CF Monterrey finished third place and the Saudi side Al-Hilal finished fourth place at the football tournament.
