Villa Park was a key venue during the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England. It hosted three World Cup matches, including a notable group stage game on 12 July, when Argentina defeated Spain 2-1 in front of 42,000 spectators. The 1966 tournament concluded with England winning their first-ever FIFA World Cup title.
