The Vazgen Sargsyan Republican Stadium is the national stadium of Armenia and the most historic football venue in the country. Originally opened in 1935 as the Dinamo Stadium under Soviet rule, it has been the epicenter of Armenian football for nearly nine decades. The stadium was renamed in 1999 in honor of Vazgen Sargsyan, a prominent military commander and former Prime Minister of Armenia who was a key figure in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Located in the heart of Yerevan, it is a stadium steeped in history, tradition, and national pride, uniquely shared by the nation’s two most prominent clubs.
The stadium is a classic Soviet-era construction that has undergone several renovations to modernize facilities while retaining its historic character.

Its golden age came in the Soviet era, most famously winning the 1973 Soviet Top League and the USSR Cup double—a feat that made them legends across the Soviet Union and cemented the stadium’s place in football history.
Domestic Dynasty: Founded after Armenia’s independence, Pyunik represents the modern era of dominance. They are the first football club from Armenia to win 10 top division titles, establishing themselves as the powerhouse of the Armenian Premier League.
Birthplace of a Legend: Pyunik is where Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Armenia’s greatest footballing export, began his professional career. Mkhitaryan, a national icon, later achieved global fame, notably scoring for Manchester United in their 2017 UEFA Europa League final victory—the club’s first title in that competition.
Beyond club football, the stadium serves as the primary home of the Armenia national football team. It is where the team plays its crucial UEFA European Championship and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, with the stands packed with passionate supporters.
