Tropicana Field is a Major League Baseball stadium located in St. Petersburg, Florida. Construction of the venue began in 1986, with total construction costs reaching approximately US$130 million. The stadium officially opened on 3 March 1990 under the name Florida Suncoast Dome.
Between 1993 and 1996, the venue was known as the ThunderDome, before adopting its current name, Tropicana Field. The stadium was originally developed to attract a Major League Baseball franchise and later became the permanent home of the Tampa Bay Rays.
The Tampa Bay Rays have used Tropicana Field as their home venue since 1998, when the franchise joined Major League Baseball. Since then, the stadium has hosted regular-season MLB games, postseason contests, and numerous memorable moments in the club’s history.
With a seating capacity of approximately 42,000, Tropicana Field has played a central role in professional baseball in the Tampa Bay area for more than three decades.
As one of the most recognizable indoor baseball stadiums in the United States, Tropicana Field has remained an important part of Florida’s sports landscape. Its long-standing association with the Tampa Bay Rays and its role in hosting top-level professional baseball have made it a notable venue in Major League Baseball history.
