Tim Hortons Field is a modern multi-purpose stadium located in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The venue stands on the historic site of Ivor Wynne Stadium, a former landmark of Canadian football. Tim Hortons Field officially opened on 1 September 2014 and has since become one of the most important sports venues in southern Ontario.
Designed to accommodate both Canadian football and association football, the stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 23,000 spectators and features contemporary facilities, upgraded player amenities, and improved spectator sightlines.
The construction of Tim Hortons Field was part of a major urban redevelopment project connected to the 2015 Pan American Games, which were hosted by Toronto and several surrounding cities, including Hamilton. The stadium was rebuilt on the same location as Ivor Wynne Stadium, preserving the site’s long sporting tradition while introducing a fully modern venue.
Construction began after the demolition of the old stadium, with a focus on long-term sustainability, multi-sport adaptability, and improved fan experience. The redevelopment transformed the area into a revitalized sports and community hub and marked a new era for professional sports in Hamilton.
Tim Hortons Field is the home stadium of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, one of the oldest and most storied teams in the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Tiger-Cats are among the league’s most recognizable franchises and were one of the first Canadian football teams to surpass 100,000 followers on their main social media page, reflecting their nationwide popularity.
Since moving into Tim Hortons Field in 2014, the Tiger-Cats have played numerous regular-season and playoff CFL games at the venue, helping establish it as one of the league’s most atmospheric stadiums.
The stadium is also home to Forge FC, a professional football club founded in 2017. Forge FC competes in the Canadian Premier League (CPL) and has played all home matches at Tim Hortons Field since the league’s inaugural season.
Forge FC made history during their first-ever CPL home match, which was played in Hamilton and attracted approximately 17,000 spectators, one of the highest attendances in the early years of the league. The club has since become one of the most successful teams in Canadian Premier League history, with Tim Hortons Field serving as a key venue for domestic league matches and continental competitions.
Tim Hortons Field has hosted a variety of major sporting events beyond club competition. As a Pan American Games venue, it staged international football matches during the 2015 Pan American Games, welcoming teams and spectators from across the Americas.
The stadium has also been used for international football fixtures, cup finals, and large-scale sporting events, reinforcing its status as a versatile and nationally significant venue.
