Tianhe Stadium is a landmark football and athletics venue in Guangzhou, Guangdong, with a seating capacity of 54,000. FIFA Women’s World Cup 1991: Tianhe Stadium hosted the inaugural match, where China defeated Norway 4-0, and also the first women’s world championship final, with the United States beating Norway 2-1. Sweden secured third place after defeating Germany 4-0 in front of 20,000 spectators.
Guangzhou FC Achievements: Guangzhou FC, the first Chinese sports club valued at $100 million, won their first domestic top-flight title in 2011 and achieved seven consecutive top-division titles from 2011 to 2017. They drew an average attendance of 45,000 fans in the 2011 season.
Asian Club Championship: In 2013, Guangzhou FC became Asian champions for the first time in history, defeating FC Seoul with goals from Elkeson de Oliveira Cardoso and Gao Lin in front of 55,000 fans.
FIFA Club World Cup 2013: Guangzhou FC finished fourth, defeating Al-Ahly in the semi-finals and playing the third-place match against Clube Atlético Mineiro, featuring Ronaldinho. The final saw 37,000 spectators attend the match in Morocco.
