Construction and Development
Construction of Teddy Stadium began in 1990, and the venue officially opened in 1991.
The stadium is named after Teddy Kollek, a former mayor of Jerusalem, and has become one of the most important sports venues in Israel.
Over the years, Teddy Stadium has undergone multiple renovation phases, significantly increasing capacity and modernizing facilities to meet international standards.
International Tournaments and Finals
In 2013, Teddy Stadium hosted the final of the UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Spain defeated Italy 4–2 in front of 29,000 spectators, marking one of the most prestigious international football matches ever held in Israel.
National Football Team of Israel
Teddy Stadium has hosted numerous home matches of the national football team of Israel.
Israel were crowned Asian football champions in 1964 for the first time in their history, finishing ahead of India and South Korea in the continental championship.
The national team played their first-ever FIFA World Cup matches in 1970, drawing two games after losing their opening match to Uruguay in front of 20,000 spectators.
Beitar Jerusalem Football Club
Beitar Jerusalem FC is one of Israel’s most prominent football clubs and uses Teddy Stadium as its home ground.
The club became the first football team from Jerusalem valued at $10 million.
Beitar Jerusalem won the Israeli top-flight league for the first time in 1987 and has since secured multiple league titles.
In 2008, the club achieved a historic league and cup double, winning the Israeli Premier League and the Israeli State Cup in the same season.
During that league campaign, Beitar drew an average home attendance of 11,000, collecting 67 points in 33 matches with 20 wins, 7 draws, and 6 defeats.
