Tancheon Stadium is a football-specific stadium and the home of historic Seongnam FC. It opened on April 1, 2002, strategically situated in the Bundang district of Seongnam, a major satellite city within the Seoul Capital Area.
The stadium was built to provide a modern, dedicated home for the club during its golden era and has since become a landmark associated with one of the most successful teams in Asian football history. Its location along the Tancheon stream gives it its name and a unique, integrated urban setting.

Intimate Bowl: A compact, single-tier bowl on three sides with a larger, two-tiered main stand. The steep stands are built close to the pitch, ensuring an intense and loud environment.
Integrated Urban Design: Part of a larger riverside sports complex, it blends into the cityscape with pedestrian access along the Tancheon greenway.
Modern Facilities: Equipped with facilities suitable for a top professional club, including dedicated areas for the club’s passionate supporters.
The stadium is the fortress of Seongnam FC, a club whose history is among the most decorated in Asia.
Foundation and Early Dominance: Founded in 1989 as Ilhwa Chunma (and later known as Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma), the club was the dominant force in Korean football during the 1990s and early 2000s, funded by the Unification Church.
Asian Conquest (1995): The club’s greatest achievement came in 1995 when they won the Asian Club Championship (now the AFC Champions League), defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al Nassr to become champions of Asia for the first time. This victory cemented their status as a continental powerhouse.
Modern Era and Identity: After a change in ownership and rebranding to Seongnam FC, the club’s fortunes have fluctuated, but Tancheon Stadium remains its spiritual home. It has hosted numerous K League title deciders, dramatic cup matches, and AFC Champions League nights.
Despite its modest capacity, Tancheon Stadium is renowned for its fantastic atmosphere, especially when filled with the club’s dedicated “Magpies” supporters. It is considered one of the most challenging away days in the K League due to the compact design and vocal home fans.
The stadium stands as a monument to Seongnam FC’s golden age of the 1990s and early 2000s. While the club may no longer have the financial might of that era, the stadium ensures it retains a distinct identity and a formidable home ground. It represents a successful model of a community-integrated, football-specific stadium in a dense metropolitan area.
