Suncorp Stadium, affectionately known as Lang Park or The Cauldron, is one of Australia’s premier sports venues, with a seating capacity of 52,000. In 1997, the Brisbane Strikers became the first Queensland football club to win an Australian top division title, defeating Sydney United 2-0 in front of 40,000 fans at Suncorp Stadium.
The Brisbane Roar Football Club (formerly Queensland Roar) also used Suncorp Stadium as their home ground. In 2005, a crowd of 20,000 attended their inaugural A-League match, where they defeated the New Zealand Knights 2-0. The Roar averaged 14,000 fans per home game in their first season and finished sixth with 28 points. The club has since become one of Queensland’s most followed football teams, with over 100,000 social media followers.
