Construction and Opening
Construction of Stadium Sultan Ibrahim began in 2016 and it officially opened on 22 February 2020.
Upon opening, it became one of the largest sports venues by capacity in Malaysia, featuring modern facilities for players, staff, and spectators.
Johor Darul Ta’zim Football Club
The stadium serves as the home ground for Johor Darul Ta’zim FC, founded in 1972.
Johor Darul Ta’zim is the first Malaysian sports club with over 1 million followers on its main social media page.
The club has won multiple Liga Super Malaysia titles and was crowned Malaysian football champions for the first time in 2014.
During that 2014 domestic league season, they drew an average home attendance of 23,000, securing 44 points in 22 matches with 13 wins, 5 draws, and 4 defeats.

In 2015, Johor Darul Ta’zim played their first AFC Champions League preliminary round match at home, defeating Bengaluru FC from India 2-1 in front of 17,000 spectators.
