Stadion Anđelko Herjavec is the principal football venue in the city of Varaždin and one of the oldest football stadiums still in use in Croatia. Opened in 1931, the stadium has hosted numerous domestic league matches, Croatian Cup fixtures, and regional football events. It serves as the home ground for both NK Varaždin and Varteks, two clubs that have played important roles in the football identity of the region.
One of the most significant moments in the stadium’s history occurred in 1996, when it hosted its first-ever match of the Croatian national football team. Croatia defeated Israel 2–0, marking an important milestone for both the stadium and the national team during the early period of Croatian football independence.
