Stade Océane, located in Le Havre, is a modern football stadium constructed between 2010 and 2012 at a cost of €101 million. Officially opened on 12 July 2012 with a league match between Havre AC and LOSC, it serves as the home ground for Havre Athletic Club (HAC), the most prominent sports club from Le Havre. Founded in 1872 under a different name, HAC became the third French football club to win a national championship title in 1899 and claimed their first Coupe de France trophy in 1959 by defeating FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Stade Océane has also hosted international events, notably the FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2019. On 8 June 2019, Spain defeated South Africa 3-1 in front of 12,000 spectators. The stadium welcomed the women’s national teams of Argentina, Brazil, China, England, France, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and the United States, making it a key venue for global football tournaments.
