Stadium Overview and History

Soldier Field is one of the most historic and iconic sports venues in the United States. Located on Chicago’s scenic Museum Campus along Lake Michigan, the stadium originally opened in 1924 as Municipal Grant Park Stadium. Construction began in 1922, and the venue was later renamed Soldier Field in honor of U.S. soldiers who died in combat.

Over the decades, Soldier Field has served as a multipurpose venue, hosting a wide range of events including American football, association football, boxing, concerts, ice hockey, rugby union, monster truck shows, political events, and large-scale religious gatherings. During the 1960s, it also played a significant role in American civil rights history, as the Chicago Freedom Movement held major rallies at the stadium.

Between 2002 and 2003, Soldier Field underwent a major renovation aimed at modernizing the facility while preserving its historic colonnades. The renovation project cost approximately US$632 million, transforming the stadium into a contemporary sports and entertainment venue while maintaining its landmark status.

1994 FIFA World Cup

Soldier Field was one of the official host venues for the 1994 FIFA World Cup, welcoming national teams from Belgium, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Germany, Greece (Hellenic Republic), and Spain.

The stadium hosted four matches in total. The first World Cup match at the venue saw Germany defeat Bolivia 1–0 in front of 63,000 spectators. Three additional group-stage matches followed. Soldier Field’s final match of the tournament was a Round of 16 encounter, in which Germany defeated Belgium 3–2. Germany later exited the competition in the quarter-finals after a loss to Bulgaria.

The Chicago Bears

Soldier Field is the long-time home of the Chicago Bears, one of the most storied franchises in the National Football League (NFL). The Bears have built a reputation as one of the league’s most successful and historic clubs.

In the 1985 NFL season, culminating in Super Bowl XX in 1986, the Bears won their first Super Bowl title. During that season, they averaged 60,000 spectators across eight home games at Soldier Field. The Super Bowl victory came with a dominant 46–10 win over the New England Patriots in Louisiana, watched by 73,000 fans in the stadium.

The Chicago Fire

Chicago Fire FC also use Soldier Field as a home venue. The club is one of the most prominent football teams in Illinois and was the first football club from the state to reach 100,000 followers on its main social media platform.

During their first Major League Soccer season at Soldier Field, the Chicago Fire recorded an average home attendance of 17,000 spectators. In 1998, the club achieved immediate success by winning the MLS Cup in their inaugural season, defeating D.C. United in the final.

In 2011, Chicago Fire made history by playing their first-ever match against a FIFA Club World Cup winner, facing Manchester United FC at Soldier Field. The match attracted a crowd of 61,000 spectators, with Manchester United emerging victorious.

Preface

1. Optimal Experience

With the growing popularity of nighttime sports events, professional competitions demand higher lighting quality. The glare from traditional fixtures can no longer meet athletes’ expectations for sensory experience. Leveraging breakthroughs in MECREE’s sports lighting technology, our precise light control and anti-glare designs enable athletes to perform at their peak and enjoy an exceptional sports experience.

2.Impact of Light Pollution

Issues caused by unnecessary nighttime lighting, such as light pollution and light trespass, are increasingly concerning and have led to rising public complaints. Amid growing environmental awareness, lighting designers must prioritize controlling “Light Pollution” and “Light Trespass.” We are committed to addressing this challenge through innovative optical technologies.

What kind of light is used in stadiums?

Currently common traditional stadium lights model for some international stadiums as below:
MVF406/1800W, HNF003, MVF401, MVF403, MVF024, EF-2000, YOA56305, YOAX56400, 2kW: HQI-TS 2000WDS, 2kW: HQI-TS 1000WDS, MHN-SA 2KW 400V/956, MHN-SB/HO 2KW 400V/956, LPW2000M/D, LPW1000MB/L, LPP2000MHN-SA, LPP2000MHN-SB.
There is big problem that traditional lamps can not cannot meet the needs of 4K and 8K high-definition broadcast and huge energy consumption.
With the strengthening of environmental lighting awareness and the pursuit of high-quality lighting, there is a trend to replace traditional lamps by high quality of LED Stadium Lights.
MECREE has launched the following series of LED Sport Stadium Lighting:

  1. R580 series stadium lights are designed for 160 feet to 1000 feet of lighting distances and 4K, 8K HD broadcasting.
  2. AFL series stadium lights are designed for lighting distances from 50 feet to 330 feet and improve the brightness uniformity.
  3. P73-L and A65 series stadium lights are designed for the precise light control needs of the North American and European markets. The Upward Light Ratio of the P73P73–L/A65 series LED stadium lights is 0%.

MECREE’s specially engineered precision lighting control is designed to meet the needs of such users. The polarized light range of 65-73° is defined as the P73-L and A65 series products, which deliver an unparalleled visual experience while offering access to thousands of IES profiles.

New LED Sports Lighting Solution Provider

PRECISE CONTROL OF LIGHT 1

-OPTICS 10X BETTER

A65

Our precisely engineered optics of polarized light aim light directly onto the field of play, to shine uniformly and to minimize glare. Outdoor venues benefit from spill light control, no more skyglow and no more complaints from the neighbors.

COMPETITORS

1. Such light shield is useless, just misleading customers.
2. As tested it will cause 30% reduction of light output
3. While 70% still have high overflow
4. Unbearable strong glare
5. Waste energy,outdated reflective technology

PRECISE CONTROL OF LIGHT 1

-OPTICS 10X BETTER

REMOTE DRIVER

The power supply and lamp body can be mounted separately, reducing the withstand weight of the lamp pole and facilitating maintenance.

CONVENIENT INSTALLATION 3

-EASY CROSSARM REPLACEMENT

Customized crossarms are available to meet all your existing old poles without replacing the main rod, crossarms bolt directly to light pole, easy and accurate installation saves time, ensures performance, safety and reliability, also lower the budget.

How to accurately aim the lights in the stadium?

In current sports lighting projects, high-altitude light calibration is recognized as a major efficiency bottleneck. The process carries high safety risks, is prone to aiming deviations, and involves cumbersome installation and removal procedures, making it difficult to achieve the required uniformity.

MECREE’s innovative laser aiming mount was designed precisely to address these issues. It revolutionizes the workflow through three key advantages:

Easy Installation: With a simple design, it allows rapid mounting and dismounting, significantly lowering the operational threshold.

Precise Aiming: Ensures accurate laser alignment, fundamentally guaranteeing uniform illumination and compliance with lighting standards.

Efficient Operation: Reduces labor and time costs by up to 80%. Calibrating 200 fixtures at height previously took 20 days; now the same workload can be completed in just 4 days.

Choosing MECREE means choosing a safer, more precise, and highly efficient sports lighting solution.
