  • Major Modernization (2007-2008): The most significant renovation occurred ahead of the 2007 Cricket World Cup, which it co-hosted. The old, crumbling stands were largely demolished and replaced with modern, concrete structures. This increased capacity and improved facilities but also changed some of the ground’s old-world character.

  • The Infamous 1998 Test: Sabina Park was the site of one of cricket’s most notorious events. During a Test match between the West Indies and England in 1998, the pitch was deemed so dangerously uneven for fast bowling that the match was abandoned after just 10.1 overs—the first Test in history to be called off for a dangerous pitch. This led to a complete relaying of the square and a shift towards more batsman-friendly pitches in subsequent years.

Today, Sabina Park remains a vibrant sporting institution. It stands as a living museum of sporting history and a vibrant center of Jamaican national pride.
