Qinhuangdao Olympic Sports Centre Stadium is a major multi-purpose sports facility in Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province. Construction began in 2002 and the stadium officially opened on 30 July 2004. With a seating capacity of 33,000, it has become one of the prominent football and athletics venues in northern China.
The stadium gained international recognition during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, serving as one of the official football venues. It has also hosted top-tier domestic football matches, including the first-ever Chinese Super League matches of Hebei Football Club.
The stadium hosted several Olympic football matches:
6 August 2008 – Women’s football: Japan vs. New Zealand ended in a 2-2 draw, attended by 10,000 spectators
7 August 2008 – Men’s football: Italy defeated Honduras in front of 21,000 spectators
These events marked the first-ever Olympic football matches at the venue, highlighting its capacity to host international competitions.
Hebei FC, one of China’s early football clubs with over 100,000 social media followers, used the stadium for its first Chinese top-flight league matches:
First-ever top-flight league match drew 24,000 spectators
The club signed notable international players, including Gervais Lombe Yao Kouassi (Gervinho) from Côte d’Ivoire
Gervinho, previously at AS Roma, joined Hebei FC in 2016 and became one of the first African athletes with over 1 million social media followers
