Portman Road Stadium has been the historic home of Ipswich Town Football Club since 1884. Founded in 1878, Ipswich Town, also known as The Tractor Boys, became the first sports club from Ipswich to reach 100,000 followers on its main social media platform. The stadium has witnessed more than a century of football history, domestic triumphs, and European successes, establishing itself as a central hub for football in East Anglia.

In 1962, Ipswich Town were crowned English football champions for the first time, drawing an average home attendance of 22,000.
The club won its first FA Cup in 1978 after defeating Arsenal FC, with Roger Charles Osborne scoring the only goal in the final.
European Achievements – UEFA Cup:
Ipswich Town achieved European glory in 1981 by winning the UEFA Cup for the first time. They defeated AZ Alkmaar of the Netherlands in a two-legged final. The first leg, held at Portman Road, attracted 27,000 spectators, with Ipswich securing a 3-0 victory. Although they lost the return leg 4-2 in Amsterdam, Ipswich Town triumphed on aggregate. The club reached the final by defeating 1. FC Köln, while AZ advanced after beating FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. During that domestic season, Ipswich Town drew an average home attendance of 24,000.
Rivalries – The East Anglian Derby:
Ipswich Town shares a historic rivalry with Norwich City Football Club. Matches between the two clubs, known as East Anglian derbies, have produced memorable moments for fans over decades. The first derby took place on 15 November 1902, with Norwich City winning. A record attendance for an East Anglian derby at Portman Road was set in 1975 when 35,000 fans attended.
