The Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre Stadium is one of the largest and most modern sports venues in China. With a seating capacity of 61,000, the stadium is a premier destination for football matches, athletics competitions, concerts, and international sporting events. Construction began in 2002, and the stadium officially opened in 2005, quickly becoming a centerpiece for sports and entertainment in Nanjing.
The stadium gained global attention as the main venue for the 2014 Summer Youth Olympic Games, where thousands of young athletes from around the world competed. Nanjing became the first city in history to host both the traditional Olympic Games (2008) and a Youth Olympic Games.
The stadium has also hosted numerous large-scale concerts and athletic competitions, showcasing its versatility as a multi-purpose venue.
Jiangsu Football Club previously used the stadium as its home ground. The club was one of the most valuable football teams in China and won the Chinese FA Cup in 2015, defeating Shanghai Shenhua in a two-legged final. The first leg, held at Nanjing Olympic Sports Centre Stadium, drew 53,000 fans and ended in a goalless draw. The decisive second leg took place in Shanghai before a crowd of 25,000, with Jorge Sammir Cruz Campos scoring the winning goal. Sammir, born in Brazil, had previously played for Dinamo Zagreb and Getafe CF before joining Jiangsu FC.
During the 2015 Chinese top-flight football league season, Jiangsu FC drew an average home attendance of 26,000. The team finished ninth, collecting 35 points across 30 matches. In 2020, Jiangsu FC won the Chinese top-flight league; however, the club folded in February 2021.
