Memorial Stadium is one of the most iconic college football venues in the United States. The stadium opened on 19 September 1942 with an initial seating capacity of approximately 20,000. It was constructed on land donated by local farmers, many of whom had lost family members in World War I, which inspired the name Memorial Stadium.
