New York Knicks (NBA) – Founded in 1946, the Knicks are one of the most popular basketball clubs globally. They won their first NBA Championship in 1970 by defeating the Los Angeles Lakers, and claimed their second title in 1973, again beating the Lakers.
New York Rangers (NHL) – Founded in 1926, the Rangers are one of the oldest National Hockey League teams. They won their first Stanley Cup in 1928 after defeating the Montreal Maroons. Legendary player Wayne Gretzky ended his NHL career with the Rangers, adding to the team’s historical prestige.
St. John’s Red Storm (NCAA) – The collegiate basketball team also uses Madison Square Garden for home games, maintaining a connection between professional and collegiate basketball in New York.
Former Tenants – The WNBA’s New York Liberty, one of the first women’s basketball teams to surpass 100,000 followers on social media, also used the arena for home games.
