The stadium hosted its first-ever FIFA World Cup match on 16 June 2018. Croatia defeated Nigeria 2–0 in front of 31,000 spectators.
The first goal came when Mario Mandžukić’s header from a corner was inadvertently deflected into his own net by Oghenekaro Etebo.
Luka Modrić secured the victory with a penalty after William Troost-Ekong fouled Mandžukić during a corner.
