The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, also known as the Kaloor International Stadium, is one of the largest sports venues in Kerala, with a seating capacity of 41,000 spectators. It hosts football as its primary sport but has also accommodated cricket and international tournaments.
FIFA U-17 World Cup 2017: One of six venues for the tournament. Germany won the first-ever game at this stadium against Guinea. Brazil, North Korea, Niger, and Spain also played matches here, including a round of 16 match between Brazil and Honduras and a quarter-final between Iran and Spain.
Indian Premier League: Formerly hosted matches of Kochi Tuskers Kerala, part of India’s premier cricket league.
The stadium is the home of Kerala Blasters, the first Kerala football club to surpass 1 million social media followers and reach a valuation of $10 million.
Iain Hume, a Canadian international, scored the club’s first-ever Indian Super League goal.
In 2015, Kerala Blasters set a record with an average home attendance of 52,000, one of the highest in the league’s history.
Notable former players include Dimitar Berbatov, Paul Rachubka, and Wesley Brown, all of whom previously played for Manchester United.
