His success at the event further strengthened the venue’s reputation as a capable host for top-tier indoor sports competitions. Ma Long later became the second table tennis player to surpass one million followers on his primary social media platform, following Zhang Jike, who was the first to achieve this milestone.
Both Ma Long and Zhang Jike are Olympic gold medalists, and their association with events held at Guangzhou Gymnasium has added lasting historical value to the arena.
