UEFA Champions League Final 2008
The Luzhniki hosted the first UEFA Champions League final in Russia, where Manchester United defeated Chelsea 6–5 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in front of 67,000 spectators. It was the first final contested between two English clubs.
FIFA World Cup 2018
Luzhniki Stadium hosted multiple matches during the 2018 FIFA World Cup:
The tournament opener: Russia 5–0 Saudi Arabia, with Yury Gazinsky scoring the first goal of the competition in front of 78,000 fans.
The FIFA World Cup Final: France defeated Croatia 4–2, crowning France as world champions for the third time and marking Croatia’s first-ever World Cup final.
