Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, commonly known as Maracanã, is one of the most iconic stadiums in the world and a symbol of Brazilian football. Construction began in 1948, and the stadium officially opened in 1950. Originally named Estádio do Maracanã (1950–1966), it was later renamed in honor of Mário Rodrigues Filho, a renowned Brazilian journalist born in Recife in 1908.
