1970 FIFA World Cup: It hosted three first-round Group 2 matches, all featuring Uruguay. The matches were Uruguay vs. Israel (2-0), Uruguay vs. Italy (0-0), and Uruguay vs. Sweden (0-1).
1986 FIFA World Cup: The stadium returned as a World Cup venue, hosting five matches. It staged three first-round Group B matches (featuring Argentina, Italy, South Korea, and Bulgaria) and two Round of 16 matches: France vs. Italy and Belgium vs. Spain. This solidified its reputation as a trusted host for football’s premier event.
