2004 AFC Asian Cup
The stadium was one of the official venues for the 2004 AFC Asian Cup.
Hosted its first-ever Asian Cup match on 20 July 2004, when Japan defeated Oman 1-0 in front of 35,000 spectators.
The event marked Chongqing’s debut as a host city for a major international football tournament.

Home to Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic, founded in 1995 (originally under a different name).
In 1997, the club played its first top-division Chinese league match, finishing fifth in its inaugural season.
During their first top-flight season, the club achieved 29 points with 8 wins, 5 draws, and 9 losses, drawing an average home attendance of 27,000 spectators.
In 2000, Chongqing Liangjiang Athletic won the Chinese FA Cup and the Chinese Super Cup for the first time.
