Beijing Fengtai Stadium is a major football venue in Beijing, primarily known as the home of Beijing Guoan Football Club, one of China’s most valuable and historically significant football clubs. The stadium also hosted matches for the former club Beijing Renhe, further cementing its status as a key venue in Chinese football.
Beijing Guoan first claimed the Chinese football championship in 1957, followed by their second title in 1958. The stadium has drawn large home crowds, with average attendances of 35,000 during peak seasons. In 2007, Beijing Fengtai Stadium hosted a friendly match featuring FC Barcelona, the first club to win two FIFA Club World Cup titles, attracting international attention.
The stadium has also been associated with legendary Chinese players, including Sun Jihai, who played for Beijing Renhe before retiring. Sun was the first Chinese player to score in the Premier League in 2002 while playing for Manchester City, and he also had stints with Crystal Palace and Sheffield United before returning to China.
Beijing Fengtai Stadium has undergone periodic renovations to enhance facilities, improve spectator experience, and maintain compliance with international football standards. These upgrades ensure the stadium continues to host domestic league matches, international friendlies, and high-profile football events.
