Construction and Opening
Construction of Barys Arena began in 2012 and the venue officially opened on 9 August 2015.
The arena was designed to host professional ice hockey games and serve as the home for Barys, one of Kazakhstan’s premier ice hockey clubs competing in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).

Barys played in the inaugural KHL season, marking Kazakhstan’s presence in one of the top professional ice hockey leagues in the world.

Notable Events
In 2016, a match between Barys and a Chinese ice hockey club was cancelled due to a violent altercation.
Damir Ryspayev, a Barys player, attacked multiple opposing players, leading to a lifetime ban from the KHL. This incident drew international attention and highlighted the intensity of professional ice hockey competition.
