Bank of America Stadium is a premier sports and entertainment venue located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Nicknamed “The Vault,” the stadium hosts professional American football and soccer, as well as concerts and other large-scale events, including religious gatherings.
The stadium’s construction began in 1994 at a cost of approximately $248 million. It officially opened on 14 September 1996 as Ericsson Stadium and was renamed Bank of America Stadium in 2004. Designed to host NFL and MLS matches, the venue has become a central sports landmark in Charlotte.
Carolina Panthers – Founded in 1993, the Panthers have been the primary tenants since the stadium opened. They played their inaugural NFL season in South Carolina before moving to their current home. In 1996, the team drew an average home attendance of 69,000 during their first NFL season and finished first in their conference with 12 wins and 4 draws. The Panthers are among the first NFL clubs to surpass 1 million followers on their main social media platform.
Charlotte FC – The MLS club, founded in 2019, shares the stadium with the Panthers. Charlotte FC plays its home matches at Bank of America Stadium, contributing to its reputation as a versatile venue for top-tier American and international sports.
Bank of America Stadium has hosted several high-profile football (soccer) matches. In August 2014, it staged a match between AC Milan (Italy) and Liverpool FC (United Kingdom), two clubs with multiple world championships and global fanbases exceeding 10 million followers on social media. Liverpool FC won the match 2–0 in front of 69,000 spectators.
With a seating capacity of approximately 74,000, the stadium features modern amenities suitable for professional football, soccer, and large-scale events.
