History and Significance:
The American Express Community Stadium, also known as Falmer Stadium, was constructed between 2008 and 2011 at a cost of £93 million. It officially opened on 30 July 2011 with a match between Brighton & Hove Albion FC and Tottenham Hotspur FC, in which the visitors from London emerged victorious. As the home of Brighton & Hove Albion, nicknamed The Seagulls, the stadium has become a modern landmark in East Sussex. Brighton & Hove Albion also became the first football club from the county to reach 100,000 followers on its main social media platform.
Domestic Football Achievements:
In their first full season at the stadium, Brighton & Hove Albion drew an average home attendance of 20,000 spectators. The club has since competed in numerous Premier League matches, establishing itself in top-flight English football. Brighton played their first-ever FA Cup final in 1983 against Manchester United. The initial match ended in a 2-2 draw before Manchester United won the replay. The first match drew a crowd of 99,000, with 91,000 attending the replay.
