Allianz Stadion, also nicknamed Weststadion, is the modern home of SK Rapid Wien, one of Austria’s most iconic football clubs. The venue opened on 16 July 2016 with a high-profile match between SK Rapid Wien and Chelsea FC from London. Rapid Wien secured a 2-0 victory in front of a full capacity crowd of 28,000 spectators. The stadium was constructed at a cost of €53 million, replacing the former Gerhard-Hanappi-Stadion, which had served Rapid Wien from 1977 to 2013. During construction, home matches were temporarily held at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion.

Founded in 1899, SK Rapid Wien is one of Austria’s oldest and most successful football clubs, celebrated for its working-class roots. Rapid Wien won their first Austrian top-flight league title in 1912 and has since accumulated over 30 national championships. The club shares a historic rivalry with Austria Wien, also based in Vienna, and their encounters are famously known as the Wiener Derbies.
