Mỹ Đình National Stadium was constructed as the centerpiece venue for the 2003 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which Vietnam hosted for the first time. The stadium quickly became the symbolic home of Vietnamese football and a focal point for major national celebrations and international sporting events.
The venue features a standard FIFA-compliant natural grass pitch surrounded by an eight-lane athletics track, making it suitable for both football and track-and-field competitions. Its distinctive roof structure covers the main grandstands, improving spectator comfort while preserving an open-air atmosphere.
2003 SEA Games: Hosted the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as athletics and football events.
