Globe Life Field is a retractable roof stadium located in Arlington, Texas. It serves as the home ballpark for the Texas Rangers, a Major League Baseball team. The stadium was built in a public-private partnership and features a retractable roof. It is located south of the Rangers’ former home ballpark, Choctaw Stadium. The Rangers announced in May 2016 that they would be leaving Globe Life Park. The new stadium was approved by voters on Election Day and HKS, Inc. was named as the architect in January 2017. In January 2019, the Rangers revealed that the playing surface at Globe Life Field would be synthetic turf supplied by Shaw Sports Turf, making them one of only five Major League Baseball teams to play on artificial turf. The Rangers cited weather as the reason for lower attendance at Globe Life Park, as the area experiences high temperatures and frequent rain. Therefore, the team proposed building a new stadium with a roof.
