What is a racetrack?

A race track (racetrack, racing track or racing circuit) is a facility built for racing of vehicles, athletes, or animals (e.g. horse racing or greyhound racing). A race track also may feature grandstands or concourses. Race tracks are also used in the study of animal locomotion.

What are LED Racetrack Lights?

LED Racetrack lights are high power flood lights that light up a racetrack for evening programs. The lights are available as either wide beam or narrow spot beams and can either provide general wide lighting or lighting at a specific light location.

What are the racetrack lighting standards?

Good track lighting helps improve the safety of racers and spectators by providing bright and uniform lighting for the track. Nowadays, due to the higher energy efficiency and durability of LEDs, LEDs are often installed and begin to replace traditional lighting, such as HPS, metal halide, mercury vapor, and halogen floodlights. Our racing track lighting system can be used in entertainment or international competitions, such as NASCAR and Formula One World Championships. Race track lighting design

Luminance (Lux) lighting requirements of the track

For racers, adequate illumination levels are important for racers. Unlike ordinary driving, high-speed racing requires full concentration, and the racer needs to deal with any emergency on the track. Generally, the minimum requirement for racetrack floodlights is 200 to 500 lux, depending on the special requirements imposed by the racing association (such as NYRA), the level of horizontal and vertical lux can reach up to 1500 to 2000 lux.

There are two types of lux levels, namely horizontal and vertical. The former represents the brightness of the ground and (horizontal surface), while the latter represents the brightness of the side of the sports car. The best ratio is about 1:1, which can provide the best lighting quality in the racing track.

1. More durable

Night racing is very common. If the lights are easily extinguished during the game, it will cause serious safety problems and economic losses. Since our LED lamp has a service life of 80,000 hours on the L70, it can last for about 22 years if it runs for 10 hours a day. By replacing metal halides, mercury vapor, HPS, fluorescent lamps and other conventional lighting with LED lamps, we can save a lot of maintenance costs.

This feature is especially important for the racetrack or other night races where the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race is held.

In addition to longer service life, our LED lights are also waterproof, so they can withstand harsh weather conditions.

2. Minimize light pollution

Poor lighting technology can cause scattered light beams to leak into the surrounding area. This leads to two problems. First, the central brightness will be reduced, which will affect the quality of lighting. We will need additional lights to compensate for subsequent losses. Then, it will cause light pollution, thereby affecting the surrounding residential areas and wildlife.

Our LED lighting system is tailored for different sports tracks-we will combine lighting with different powers, beam angles and lens caps to minimize light pollution. The lighting will be more concentrated in the designated area.

3. Running cost of race track lighting

What is the cost and operating cost of the track lighting? This actually depends on the scale of the racing track. For a medium-sized racecourse, the cost of the lights is approximately US$25,000 to US$60,000. In order to obtain a more accurate value, please feel free to consult our sales representatives.

As for operating costs, for every 10,000W LED lights, the cost of running race track lighting = 10,000W x 8 hours x $0.12/1000 = $9.6 per day, or $288 per month. If your existing lighting system uses halogen floodlights, the brightness of a 10,000W LED is equivalent to a 100,000W halogen lamp, and its operating cost will be 10 times that of an LED.
