Football Stadium Introduction

The Víctor Agustín Ugarte Stadium is a multipurpose stadium in Bolivia, located in the city of Potosí at 3885 meters above sea level and mostly used for soccer practice. The stadium is named after one of the best Bolivian footballers, Víctor Agustín Ugarte. The Bolivian soccer competition tournaments are played there, the Bolivian Professional Soccer League where Club Real Potosí and Nacional Potosí play at home.

Why use the Stadium Names?

Its first unofficial name was San Clemente Stadium because of the area in which it is located, since 1992; In 2000 it was changed to that of Mario Mercado Vaca Guzmán as a tribute to the late Bolivian leader and for the contribution that his son gave in the painting of the stands and the installation of the lighting.

Later, with the 2008 remodeling, the stadium was renamed Estadio Víctor Agustín Ugarte, in honor of the best Bolivian soccer player. Currently, due to its location and beauty, the Potosí stadium has the nickname of the “Nest of the Condors.”

The Víctor Agustín Ugarte Stadium is one of the youngest sports venues in Bolivia; It was built during the years 1991-1992 to host the matches of the newly promoted Club Universitario de Potosí in the 1992 league tournament.

Project Consideration before Design

1. Pre-determination of tower height

1. Tower height must be selected in order that all parts of the field can be illuminated to the required standard for the number of cameras to be used.
2. Column heights can be initially estimated by ensuring that the angle subtended at the centre of the pitch to the head-frame center shall be not less than 25°.

2. Side lighting arrangement

It is common practice to use roof structures as the support for a lighting system. In general roof mounted systems allow lighting to be brought closer to the pitch making the lighting system more effective, compared with the increased height and distance of corner tower systems.

Distributed side lighting systems tend also not to create harsh or disturbing shadows, thereby creating a more pleasant visual environment for both spectators at an event or watching a television broadcast.

Permitted longitudinal positioning of the floodlights: In order to maintain good visual conditions for the goalkeepers and attacking players from the corners, lighting equipment shall not be placed within a zone of 15° either side of the goal line.
